For Brazil, Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho worked almost magically together and Edmilson, Cafu and Lucio won the battles in defense in the air, while Oliver Neuville, Bernd Schneider and Dietmar Hamann maintained the German pressure.

However, the game turned on the goalkeeping of Oliver Kahn and Marcos – with Marcos making save after incredible save it was Kahn, who had only conceded one goal in the previous six matches, who could not hold a dipping shot from Rivaldo allowing Ronaldo to put the Brazilians ahead.
